Pragya's Family

Late Pritha Banerjee

Mother of Pragya | Odissi Dancer | Founder of a Dance Academy

Pritha Banerjee was born into a wealthy, orthodox family where tradition was valued above individuality. Yet, despite growing up in an environment that often made her feel like an unwanted and overlooked daughter, Pritha never allowed bitterness to consume her. She was kind-hearted, compassionate, and remarkably forgiving. She believed in forgiving people, though she never forgot the wounds they had inflicted.

Behind her gentle smile was a woman of extraordinary courage.

Pritha was a gifted Odissi dancer, deeply passionate about the art form. Unfortunately, her parents never appreciated her talent. They considered dance an unnecessary pursuit and constantly discouraged her from following her passion. But where her parents saw little value in her dreams, her husband saw her brilliance.

Anirban believed in her when almost nobody else did.

His encouragement gave Pritha the courage to pursue her passion professionally. Eventually, she established her own dance academy, where she trained talented young dancers and helped them discover their potential. Teaching dance was not merely a profession for her—it was a way of passing on a piece of her soul.

Pritha was a devoted wife and a deeply loving mother. She loved her husband fiercely and stood beside him through every adversity. When her parents opposed their relationship because Anirban was an orphan and, in their eyes, belonged to a lower social standing, Pritha chose Anirban anyway.

She fought against her own family for the man she loved.

Together, Pritha and Anirban built a life that their families had once believed impossible—a home filled with warmth, laughter, affection, and the simple happiness they had been denied elsewhere.

But life was cruel in ways neither of them could have anticipated.

Pritha was diagnosed with cancer and lost her battle at just thirty-five. Her death left an immeasurable void in the lives of Anirban, Anubhab, and little Pragya, who was only five years old when she lost her mother.

For those who knew her, Pritha's legacy was not defined by the illness that took her life.

It was defined by the love she gave, the art she nurtured, the people she inspired, and the family she loved with every breath.

Though she left far too soon, a part of Pritha remained alive in her children—in Anubhab's strength, in Pragya's fierce spirit, and in the love that still held the Banerjee family together.

Anirban Banerjee

Age: 54 | Father of Pragya | Renowned Surgeon

Dr. Anirban Banerjee is regarded as one of the finest surgeons Kolkata has ever produced. Brilliant, disciplined, and exceptionally dedicated to his profession, he has earned immense respect throughout his career. Yet, despite his achievements in medicine, Anirban has always believed that his greatest responsibility lies not in the operating theatre, but at home.

His family comes first. Always.

No matter how demanding his schedule becomes, Anirban makes time for his children. He may spend countless hours at the hospital, but he never allows his professional responsibilities to completely consume him. For him, success means little if he cannot return home to the people he loves.

Perhaps this fierce attachment to family comes from losing his own at such a young age.

Anirban was only fourteen when he lost both his parents in an accident. Suddenly orphaned, he was forced to grow up without the people who were supposed to guide him. That loss shaped him profoundly and left him with a fear he would carry for the rest of his life—the fear of losing the people he loves.

Then he met Pritha.

He first saw her at an award function and fell for her almost instantly. But their love was anything but easy. Pritha's wealthy, orthodox parents refused to accept Anirban because he was an orphan and, according to them, socially beneath their daughter.

They were wrong.

Anirban and Pritha refused to allow social status, prejudice, or rejection to determine their future. Through unwavering love, resilience, perseverance, and countless trials, they built a home of their own—a home filled with warmth, laughter, tenderness, and a sense of belonging that neither of them had known for much of their lives.

For Anirban, Pritha was not merely his wife.

She was his home.

Losing her to cancer shattered him.

But grief gave him no permission to fall apart. He still had two children who needed him. So Anirban swallowed his pain, gathered whatever strength remained within him, and became both parents to Anubhab and Pragya.

He is an affectionate and supportive father, always encouraging his children to pursue their dreams. Yet his love comes with one significant flaw:

He is fiercely overprotective.

Having lost his parents at fourteen and his wife far too young, Anirban's greatest fear is losing his children too. Every late-night phone call, every dangerous situation, every unexpected problem triggers the same instinctive terror—that something might happen to the people he has left.

Sometimes, that fear makes him react more strongly than necessary.

He worries too much. He questions too much. He tries to protect too much.

And occasionally, his children mistake his fear for control.

But beneath every overreaction is the same wounded heart of a man who has already lost too much.

Anirban has spent his entire life learning how to survive loss.

He simply cannot bear the thought of surviving another one.

To the outside world, he is a celebrated surgeon—calm, accomplished, and respected.

To Anubhab and Pragya, he is simply their father.

And to him, they are the two pieces of Pritha that life left behind.

Anubhab Banerjee

Age:27 years

Geologist | Elder Brother | Pragya's Greatest Protector

Anubhab Banerjee is calm, confident, effortlessly charming, and strikingly handsome. He carries himself with an easy assurance that makes people naturally gravitate toward him. But beneath that composed exterior is a deeply affectionate elder brother whose entire world changes when it comes to his younger sister, Pragya.

To Pragya, Anubhab is far more than a brother.

He is her best friend, motivator, protector, secret-keeper, and favourite tormentor—sometimes all within the same conversation.

He scolds her when she crosses a line, lectures her when she makes a mistake, and then quietly makes sure she is okay afterward. Despite all his teasing, he is one of the people who pampers her the most. He affectionately calls her "his angel," and the nickname has become a reflection of how precious she is to him.

Unlike their father, Anubhab never tries to clip Pragya's wings.

He knows she is ambitious, fiercely independent, and sometimes stubborn enough to drive everyone around her crazy. But he would never ask her to shrink herself simply because the world might not understand her. He encourages her to chase her dreams, make her own choices, and discover who she wants to become.

And he makes her one promise without ever having to say it aloud:

If she falls, he'll be there to help her stand again.

Anubhab is Pragya's biggest motivator. He knows when she needs encouragement, when she needs a brutally honest reality check, and when she simply needs someone to sit beside her without asking questions. He understands the difference between protecting her and controlling her—and he always chooses the former.

His loyalty toward Pragya is absolute.

Even if the entire world were to turn against her, Anubhab would remain beside her. He doesn't blindly support her mistakes; he will tell her when she is wrong. But once he knows the truth, nothing will make him abandon her.

There is, however, one thing Anubhab cannot tolerate:

Seeing tears in his sister's eyes.

The man who is normally calm and composed has a very different side when someone deliberately hurts the people he loves. His patience has limits, and crossing them can reveal a frightening intensity that few people ever get to witness.

For Pragya, he would go to extraordinary lengths.

Because she isn't merely his little sister.

She is his angel, and he is fiercely protective of her.

Professionally, Anubhab is a geologist, sharing Pragya's fascination with the Earth and its mysteries. His work satisfies his intellectual curiosity while giving him opportunities to explore places far beyond the familiar.

Outside geology, he has two passions that couldn't be more different: racing bikes and playing the violin.

The roar of a racing bike gives him an adrenaline rush, while the violin brings out the quieter, more introspective side of his personality. Between fieldwork, long rides, music, and his endless arguments with Pragya, Anubhab has built a life that is distinctly his own.

To everyone else, he may be a calm, confident geologist with an adventurous streak.

But to Pragya, he will always be something simpler:

Her brother. Her safest person. Her biggest cheerleader. And the one person she knows will never let her face the world alone.

Pragya's Friends

They are Pragya's secret box—the three people who know the parts of her that she rarely shows the rest of the world. They know her insecurities, her fears, her dreams, her embarrassing moments, her deepest secrets, and even the things she sometimes refuses to admit to herself.

Pragya trusts them blindly.

Their friendship is not built merely on years of knowing one another; it is built on an almost unbreakable sense of loyalty. They have seen Pragya at her strongest and at her most vulnerable, and neither version has ever made them leave her side.

They tease her, argue with her, annoy her, lecture her, and occasionally make her question why she became friends with them in the first place.

But when Pragya needs them, everything changes.

They become her shield.

They are always the first to stand beside her when things go wrong and the last to leave when the crisis is over. In difficult situations, they instinctively surround her like a protective wall. Anyone who deliberately hurts Pragya will have to deal with all three of them.

For Pragya, they aren't merely friends.

They are family she chose for herself.

Niharika Debnath

Age: 22 | Pragya's Oldest Best Friend | Aspiring Fashion Designer

Niharika Debnath has been Pragya's best friend for practically her entire life. Their friendship began when they were newborns, making Niharika the oldest and longest-standing friend in Pragya's life.

She is chaotic, clumsy, and almost permanently one unfortunate incident away from getting injured. If there is a perfectly ordinary way to walk into a perfectly ordinary piece of furniture, Niharika will somehow find it.

Seriousness and Niharika simply cannot coexist.

She is the sort of person who can turn an ordinary afternoon into complete chaos without even trying. Her unpredictable nature frequently drives Pragya insane, but Niharika's infectious energy is also one of the things that keeps Pragya smiling.

As an only child, Niharika grew up without siblings, but Pragya eventually became the sister she never had.

Despite her clumsiness and playful personality, Niharika is fiercely protective of her best friend. She knows Pragya's moods almost instinctively and can often tell when something is wrong before Pragya says a word.

Niharika dreams of becoming a fashion designer. She is passionate about colours, fabrics, design, and creativity, hoping one day to build something of her own in the fashion world.

She may be a walking disaster most of the time, but when it comes to Pragya, Niharika's loyalty is anything but chaotic.

Pragya is her person.

Aarohi Roy

Age: 22 | Pragya's Best Friend | Aspiring Historian

Aarohi Roy entered Pragya's life when they were in Class One, and their friendship has only grown stronger with every passing year.

Funny, caring, and wonderfully dramatic, Aarohi believes that life without a little drama is hardly worth living.

She loves teasing Pragya and considers annoying her one of life's great pleasures. Whether Pragya is trying to concentrate, read a book, or have a serious conversation, Aarohi somehow finds a way to make things entertaining.

And yes—Aarohi cannot survive without drama.

She can turn the smallest incident into an elaborate story, complete with exaggerated expressions and theatrical reactions. Pragya often threatens to stop listening to her, but she almost always ends up laughing.

Behind all that drama, however, Aarohi is deeply caring. She is sensitive to the emotions of the people she loves and especially protective of Pragya. She knows when a joke is needed and when a joke needs to stop.

As an only child, Aarohi has always considered her closest friends to be an extension of her family.

She dreams of becoming a historian, fascinated by the stories, civilizations, conflicts, and people that shaped the world. Her curiosity makes her the one who always wants to know what happened, why it happened, and what everyone else somehow managed to miss.

Aarohi may bring the drama wherever she goes.

But when Pragya needs her, she brings something much more important:

unwavering loyalty.

Archismita Bose

Age: 22 | Pragya's College Friend | Aspiring Professional

Archismita Bose came into Pragya's life during college, when the two became batchmates.

Unlike Niharika's chaotic energy and Aarohi's dramatic personality, Archismita is the serious and grounded member of the trio.

Her life has never been easy.

Archismita grew up in an orphanage and had to face hardships from an early age. She never had the luxury of a safety net or someone waiting to catch her when she fell. Whatever she has achieved, she has earned through determination, sacrifice, and relentless effort.

She knew that the road ahead would be difficult, but she refused to let her circumstances decide her future.

Her passion and perseverance eventually earned her admission to a prestigious institute for her graduation—a place she reached entirely through her own merit.

Archismita has learned not to expect the world to make room for her.

She makes her own room.

People often overlook her. Some fail to notice the quiet strength behind her reserved personality. But Pragya never did.

From the moment they became friends, Pragya refused to let Archismita feel invisible. She stood beside her, valued her, listened to her, and treated her as an equal.

For Archismita, that meant everything.

Her loyalty toward Pragya is profound. She doesn't make grand declarations or dramatic promises. She simply shows up—again and again, whenever Pragya needs her.

She would go to extraordinary lengths to protect her.

Because Pragya was one of the first people who looked at Archismita and saw her, rather than her past.

And Archismita will never forget that.

Among the three friends, she is perhaps the quietest.

But when someone threatens Pragya, she can become the most formidable of them all.

She may not have been born into a family that protected her—but she found one in Pragya.
